What to watch for.
Tramore is a large open beach. Bigger south and southwest swells can make the surf much more powerful than the beach’s family-resort appearance suggests. Beginners should stay in instructed or lifeguarded areas when available.
Tide & wind.
Tide
The wide beach changes substantially through the tide. Check the upcoming high and low times before leaving gear far down the sand.
Wind
The live wind card is particularly useful here because the beach can look inviting while gusts make paddling and board control harder for learners.
Freedom Surf School
For first-time surfers and anyone unsure about the day’s conditions, a local lesson is the easiest way to learn the safe part of the beach, understand currents and choose suitable equipment.
